We are going to be showing our lovely scarves, shawls, and cowls at Nikkei Matsuri in Japantown San Jose April 29, 2018 from 9:30 to 4:00. The festival is a great way to spend the day. There are food vendors, great entertainment and local shopping to do. It's a great chance to see our work in person and to chat with us.
Nikkei Matsuri is in it's 41st year and is the Japanese-American festival celebrating the food, culture, and arts of the Japanese-American community. Since Sand is Japanese-American we were delighted to be offered an opportunity to showcase our woven wearable art in our own community.
Please come and see us there!
We do love the late autumn and winter seasons! The weather has finally turned cooler, and there is frost on the rooftops in the mornings. This is the perfect time to wear all the handmade things! Scarves, shawls, and stoles all keep us toasty when the chilly winds blow. We have added some really lovely new items!
In addition to some new shawls and scarves, we will also be adding our new line of bags made from handwoven and upcycled materials! Watch for the listings across the next few days!
The winter holidays are quickly approaching now, and with them a variety of gift giving opportunities. We do offer free shipping on all orders in the US. Please do let us know if you have any questions!
We are absolutely delighted to be attending our first show as Stonewater Arts! It's a special closed show this afternoon. Our shop here is on hold for the show; tomorrow we will be updating the store with new items, so be sure to check back tomorrow afternoon!
Wish us luck today!
Fall is here! We love Autumn! Both Kaye and Sandi love the crisp mornings, cool evenings, and the colour, colour, colour that begins with Autumn. Here in the Bay Area we truly have a longer Autumn than Winter, so we take great pleasure in watching as the season progresses. Our neighborhood, while very urban, has lots and lots of beautiful foliage that really takes on full colour as the chlorophyll green of Spring and Summer recede.
In response to the season we both have seasonal colours in mind on the looms. Kaye has just finished up 5 beautiful cowls in hot pink with varying wefts in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness month. You can find these cowls listed exclusively on our Etsy store: stonewaterarts.etsy.com There are five available: 2 with white, 2 with brown, and one with burgundy weft. They will be listed at $60 each, $15 of which will be donated to the Women's Cancer Resource Center located in Oakland, CA.
Sandi has a beautiful piece on her big loom called Falling Rain. This shawl combines her handspun merino/silk with a lovely blue weft, reminiscent of rain falling heavily across a mountain range. She was inspired to create this piece after our trip to Black Sheep Gathering this past June. Driving through the Cascade mountain range reminded her of the mountains of her childhood.
The heat wave is on! Here at Stonewater Arts we are doing our best to keep creating beauty for you to wear during some record temperatures for the San Francisco South Bay! It's been a tough few days. Everyone please keep hydrated and cool; we'll be doing the same!
This is a perfect time to look inward. We so often ignore that inner voice that tells to slow down, practice mindful awareness, and allow ourselves to experience the beauty that is around us. When we take the time to craft a quiet moment (and the heat is giving us lots of opportunities to try!), sweet surprises delight us: a hummingbird flits by, gorgeous colour in a blossom catches our view, or we hear music that tickles our spirit! These things lift and inspire us.
Take heart, Autumn really is right around the corner!
Welcome to Stonewater Arts! We hope you will enjoy our offerings here at Stonewater Arts! We feel called to create beautiful items for you to enjoy, pieces of art that you can wear and display. All of our work is meant to be used; we feel strongly that art is an ever changing verb describing both the world around us as well as the world we wish to see.
